Brave by Eunice Carpitella

Check out this blog by Eunice Carpitella where she’ll discussing stepping into a world of BRAVE and how the dreamer in us is fueled by action that ignites our courageous selves and, with awareness and mindfulness, we begin to show up differently.

Be | Rumble | Act | Vulnerability | Everyone

Wouldn’t it be great if when we awoke and peered over the horizon of our day, we were vigorously pulled into a vision for a brave new future? What would be possible if that future included a braver self, a stronger team, a more virtuous life, and a better world?

When we step into a world of BRAVE the dreamer in us is fueled by action that ignites our courageous selves and, with awareness and mindfulness, we begin to show up differently. Before long we trust and relate to ourselves as courageous ones.

“Courage is contagious. To scale daring leadership and build courage in teams and organizations, we have to cultivate a culture in which brave work, tough conversations and whole hearts are the expectations, and armor is not necessary or rewarded.” ~ Brenè Brown

Fortuitously, the word I chose to live into for 2020 was BRAVE. As we navigate the final quarter of this year, it is with great humility and awe that I offer gratitude for countless opportunities to practice being brave.

It is sobering and inspiring to recall the ways in which the global pandemic has united and called us forth. It has disrupted, separated, and isolated us. Together, we have endured hardship, suffering, and loss. We have doubted, despaired, and grieved. We have responded with velocity, agility, and creativity. We have celebrated new beginnings, innovated strong starts, and cultivated new opportunities; yet, we yearn for a semblance of “normalcy.” Intimately, we are fighting to understand and know ourselves and to appreciate one another. We are experimenting with what is possible while searching for a more certain, connected, and hopeful path. We are brave.

“Start close in, don’t take the second step, or the third, start with the first thing close in, the step you don’t want to take.”
~ David Whyte

Be
Often, we are quick to jump into action and do. Sometimes the brave thing to do is nothing, be in the moment. Notice and be with fear. Embrace the very thing that makes you feel uncomfortable. Reflect, question, listen, and learn. Do not move; rather, be.

Rumble
In the words of Brenè Brown, Rumble “is a discussion, conversation or meeting defined by a commitment to lean into vulnerability, to stay curious and generous, to stick with the messy middle of problem identification and solving, to take a break and circle back when necessary, to be fearless in owning our parts, and, as psychologist Harriet Lerner teaches, to listen with the same passion with which we want to be heard.”

Act
Incremental, repetitive, and disciplined Action leads the way. Thank you for taking that walk, creating that poem, choosing that healthier dish, saying no, sitting quietly, asking for help, taking that trip, saying yes, conducting that tough conversation, cleaning that closet, fixing that problem, listening to that mate, meditating, collaborating, completing that task, learning to sing, swim or speak a foreign language, offering a hand. Thank you for daring. Thank you for the beginning. Again, and Again. Oh, that….

Vulnerability
Trust;
Celebrate life as a Victor;
Practice your Vinyasas;
Value your relationships!

Everyone
Include. Show up and Explore with our whole-hearted, curious, and Equitable selves. Enough
